Mandatory Credit: David Gonzales-Imagn Images San Francisco 49ers star Christian McCaffrey is expected to play in the team's season opener versus the host Seattle Seahawks, ESPN reported Sunday.
Concerns were raised about McCaffrey's availability for the game after he was added to the injury report Thursday with a calf issue. The two-time All-Pro sat out practice on Friday and was listed as questionable for the contest.
A calf issue cropped up for McCaffrey last fall, as well, which eventually was diagnosed as bilateral Achilles tendinitis. That injury caused him to miss the first eight games of the season, and he lost five more games to close the year with a right PCL sprain.
McCaffrey, 29, finished last season with career lows in rushing yards (202), rushing touchdowns (zero), receptions (15) and receiving yards (146).
He led the NFL in rushing in 2023 yards with 1,459.
